4:45 am- Prepare large thermos of cafe con leche, pack tamales in hamper
5:00 am- Hit the road, with sleepy child in tow. Don't forget Mom!
6:00 am- Hunt for parking in busy Pasadena
6:15 am- Stare in dismay at very, very wet bleachers while standing in the cold
6:16 am- Sit on very, very wet bleachers because, really, what choice do you have?
6:30 am- Read Anna Karenina while waiting around for the next hour and a half
7:00 am- Glance up and wonder if you've mistakenly stumbled upon a)2007 National Hobo Convention or b) the Senior's World Bingo Championships!
8:00 am- Enjoy goal of finally attending the Tournament of Roses parade!!

Yes. It's true. I finally witnessed the parade, in person. And I enjoyed it without all of the commercials :) It was obvious that many people had ended up camping out (literally. they had fires and air mattress, sleeping bags and camp chairs) in order to enjoy free, streetside seating. And it was obvious that many grannies and grampies loved attending the parade, as well. And I mean many! Considering that I don't do well in crowds at all, this one wasn't too bad. Everyone was friendly, chipper, and very supportive of all of the bands and floats. Pretty amazing, when you think about it. Since everyone probably only had a few hours sleep the night before :)

I have NEVER attended one of these parades. I have thought about it, but never made it due to my trips to the great state of Alabama.
