The local elementary schools hosted a "Family Fitness Night" in an effort to inform and encourage kids and their parents about eating right and staying active. Despite the fact that Kaya and I are already pretty good about this, the kid was dying to go. So, we started with a sack race. I don't know if anyone has ever attempted a race with someone so much shorter than them, but I advise against it :)

I was so serious, discussing with Kaya the options we had so that, as a team, we could make it to one side of the field and back with out crashing and burning. But, there's no taming or reigning in the enthusiasm of a nine year old!
About three steps into it, we were flat on our faces and laughing our butts off!! In total, there were six stations. Kaya participated in them all, while I cheered from the sidelines. She raced through them all and enjoyed seeing all of her friends and her teacher. They had prizes of baby carrots and, the kids were so wild for them, you would have thought the carrots were bricks of gold!!

The best station was where all the kids had to "Jazzercise". The instructor was great and really got the kids excited about movin' and groovin' to the music. Oddly, despite all of my efforts to excite her to it previously, Kaya determined last night that she only wants to eat healthy meals. Last night she informed me that I need to make sure that her lunch includes a fruit, vegetable, whole grain, and some milk. How this will differ from every other lunch that she turns her nose up at, I don't know. But, I figure that the best thing to do is let her believe that it's all her idea :) Now, I have a little workout buddy to get me moving whenever I'm feeling lazy (which is often) and someone to police every bite of ice cream that I put in my mouth!!
