Harbor Cove

Is there anything as nice as spending a day at the beach? Tough question! Even though fall has officially arrived, we've been enjoying typically beautiful California weather still. So, I decided that it's neccesary to try and hit as many beaches as possible before chillier temps arrive. This week's lucky pick? Harbor Cove, located about sixty miles northwest, in Ventura. I've been there once before and knew, when I saw it, that it was a place that I just had to bring Kaya. It brought back a lot of great memories of the beaches that my sister and I used to run around like heathens at. Kaya and I pretty much had the run of the place since there weren't too many vistors this weekend. We relaxed for a while, kicking back and reading. Afterwards, we probably spent the better part of three hours exploring. We gathered together a collection of mussel and clam shells, sand dollars, driftwood, tiny sea snails and hermit crabs (which made it back into their home and didn't come back to ours). There are some great outcroppings of rocks that are perfect for climbing and discovering tide pools. Kaya didn't enjoy going out too far because she didn't care for the feel of barnacles under her feet. Once we were done with the surf and sand, we took a little tour around the marina that was right aross the way. Kaya got a kick out of all of the boats and was begging to rent a paddle boat. .I had to decline. I could envision us, happily paddling away out into the harbor, when the kid's tiny legs would get tired and she couldn't paddle anymore. So, there we would be, circling for hours!! The marina has a charming little shopping plaza encircling it, and we spent quite a while, checking out all of the goods. At the end of the day, we headed home(bringing about half of the beach back with us in the form of sand. Lots of it. In the car) and picked up tons of fresh fruits and veggies at one of the fruit stands on the way home.
