A couple of day's ago, Mom, Amber Jaren, Kaya and I drove out to Pearblossom. It's a beautiful area of the Mojave Desert, in a stark kind of way. We visited a monastery out there and harvested some mistletoe. There was some snow on the hills surrounding the area, which made me miss Stuttgart and all of the snow that I'm sure is about to hit soon. I did realize that not a single one of us was appropriately dressed against the cold, though. Brrrr!

You may wonder what the Californian residents do to stay warm in chilly Pearblossom. Well, I'll tell you. They build up a wonderful insulating layer of fat. And how do they obtain this magical layer?

I usually feel guilty just eating these things uncooked :)
