New England Leaf Peeping

Road trips. Normally avoided like the plague. Ordeals out the wazoo. Spills on the vehicle carpet, stale air, some bozo riding your butt, bickering and road rage. Sometimes you forget that and plan to go on one. Hope like crazy for the best.

This one turned out to be the best!

I've been super interested in traveling northward to get a look at our country's famed New England Foliage, nibble a lobster roll, sip a little cider and get some chow-da while I was at it. We finally took the plunge, loaded up the car and drove. Drove some more. Drove, drove, drove.... you get the idea. We managed to take the wrong exit only once (my bad), though I still can't get over that I drove us through NYC! Mom would say "if you've experienced the autobahn, any other road should be a piece of cake". I don't find that to be true and can guarantee that my knuckles were pure white through that particular city. We jammed to our extensive library of 80s tunes, guzzled rest stop coffee and teased one another endlessly.

"Beautiful! Lovely! Oooohhhh! Pretty!" That's what Shayne kept saying. Okay, we all kept saying it. Except the locals. Apparently we missed the peak foliage. I have no idea how such a thing could be said as I was in awe. We spent a little time in a couple of very charming NH villages, got lost in a corn "maize", and even went to a haunted ski resort (did you know such a thing even existed?!?). In between all of that, we just drove and looked. Looked and drove. And ate. My lobster roll must have weighed almost two pounds!! Fresh cider donuts at the farm, I have no words to describe, outside of "Mmmmmmm...donuts". Warm cider on a chilly fall day? Heaven! And enough McDonalds french fries that, laid end-to-end, could probably make it from the east coast to the west.

Shayne's family were super nice and put us up for a couple of nights each. Total bonus to visit family while doing our trip. The icing on the cake is that we got home in excellent time which only made the trip that much better. And actually makes me want to do another one. Now, where's my map?

"Corn maze!! Woo!!!"

"Uh, guys? I'm really hoping that we'll be pulling over soon, if you know what I'm saying!"

Fun trip! I have never been to the East Coast, so I would love to do a road trip and just drive around and look! :)
