A Christmas Poem

Twas early Christmas morn’, so cold and so dark,
When I was shook from my sleep by a child as light as a lark.
Her eyes were so pleading, so eager and sweet,
That I quickly sat up and leapt to my feet.
I regretted leaving my warm, cozy bed.
After looking at pictures, I regretted not brushing the hairs on my head.
The two of us crept up to the sparkling, lit tree
Laughing with mirth and shouting with glee.
Behold! What a pile, a red and striped mess.
Packages ‘round the tree like birds in a nest.
With eyes oh so blurry, teeth fuzzy, breath stale,
Paper flew round like golf ball sized hail.
T-shirts and robes, nail polish, too.
Candies and CD’s, to name just a few.
“Presents, oh presents!” Kaya joyfully cried
As onto her body a pink bathrobe she tied
Mommy lovingly caressed her new tamale cookbook
As under the tree the kid took one last, desperate look.
“Is it here, did I get it?” the little girl asked.
“A Nintendo DS, one that starts with a flash?”
With a triumphant shout, she reached under the tree.
Mom coyly smiled and asked, “I wonder? What could it be?”
By nimble, quick fingers the gift soon was exposed,
And Kaya held the Nintendo under my nose.
“You see, I told you…” she said with a joyful tear,
“Santa brought me what I wanted ‘cause I was a good girl all year!”

Many thanks to everyone who reads this and puts up with it! :)

Wow, even her Nintendo is "fashionably pink"! Nice choice Santa!--Jeremy
